Point Pleasant,
WV
The first "official" sighting of the Mothman occurred
November 15, 1966, although there had been documented
sighting reports prior to that.  There are even a few
sightings that occur to this day, but not nearly as many as
in 1966-67 flap.  The abundance of Mothman sightings
seemed to have ceased in Point Pleasant, after the
collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967.

In late September 2004, 3 members and one guest went to
explore the TNT area of Point Pleasant, where most of the
sightings, including the first "official" sighting, took place.
The TNT area is now a wildlife management area, and is
located about 6 miles north of Point Pleasant on Route 62.
It was used by the U.S. Government to store explosives
during the World Wars.  The military built these "igloos",
and covered them with sod and grass as camouflage, so
that planes flying above would not notice them.  These
igloos remain still remain today.

During our daylight investigation, we found no unusual
activity, as expected.  Although, we did encounter many
mosquitoes.  We were on limited time, but agreed that we
would like to return.

In May 2005, we made a trip back to Point Pleasant and the
TNT area.  We actually camped out in the TNT area, in one
of the authorized places.  This time, our
Lead Investigator,
Tom, met with Jeff Wamsley, a local expert on Mothman and
the events surrounding it.  He has authored two books
about the subject, runs the Mothman Museum, coordinates
the annual Mothman Festival, and has appeared on several
documentaries and T.V. shows about Mothman.  We
encourage everyone to check out Mr.
Wamsley's website
at
www.mothmanlives.com.  Tom even appeared in the
same episode of
Weird U.S.  entitled Creepy Curses.

Through our contacts w
e have obtained information about
some of the open igloos, a
s well as a much better map of
the TNT area for our future visits.  However, nothing out of
the normal has been experienced or documented
since
the original sighting at the former North Power Plant back
in 1966.

As of autumn 2006, CPSI has made several more visits to
Point Pleasant.  We have meet many locals, people
involved in the Mothman legacy, as well as other
like-minded individuals.  Point Pleasant is the home to the
historic, and allegedly haunted,
Lowe Hotel, too.  We have
had the pleasure to get to know the owners and have
conducted several investigations there.  Tom and Dennis
attended the 4th Annual Mothman Festival in 2005, and the
5th Annual this year, as well.  November 15, 2006 will be the
40th anniversary of that first, infamous sighting back in
1966.

*Update 2009* As of now we have made countless visits to
Point Pleasant over the years.  Thoroughly explored it's
famed "TNT Area" and have met many individuals who
share our thirst for the abnormal and unusual.

If you find yourself in Point Pleasant some weekend, keep
an eye out, you might just see us there!
