Bigfoot
a.k.a. Sasquatch
Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is the name of a cryptid which has captured the attention of people from all
over the world.  It is a controversial creature, being either the product of vivid imagination, or a creature that
has simply avoided close observation, or capture by man.  The extremely large, human-like, footprints left by
these beings gave rise to the name "Bigfoot".

Bigfoot is best described as a large, 7 to 10 foot tall, bipedal humanoid, covered in hair, that lives in the
remote wilderness areas of the United States and Canada, specifically those areas in south western Canada,
the Great Lakes, the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, the forests of the U.S. Northeast, and the U.S.
Southern states.  Some researchers believe that it is a creature which may be found around the world under
different regional names, such as Yeti, or is at least a closely related species.  Sightings have allegedly
occurred in Malaysia, China, Russia, Australia, and South America.

However, the majority of scientists reject the possibility of the creature's existence, and consider the stories of
Bigfoot to be a combination of folklore, mythology, and hoax.  They have found the existing physical evidence
and sightings unpersuasive; generally dismissing the phenomenon as the product of the misidentification of
common animals.  Primarily, because no Bigfoot bones or bodies have been found.

However, belief in the existence of such a creature is not without reason.  Let's not forget, that it was just in the
twentieth century that  the mountain gorilla (1902), the Okapi (1901), and the Coelacanth (1938) were all
discovered by science and proven to actually exist.  These too, were all once thought to be just myth.

Famous Bigfoot Videos
The Patterson-Gimlin film is a motion picture of an
unidentified subject, filmed by Roger Patterson and Robert
Gimlin on October 20, 1967.  The mainstream view is that
the film shows a man wearing an ape suit, but many
continue to maintain that the film depicts a nonhuman
primate, commonly known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch.  Most
mainstream experts have declared the film is a hoax which
deliberately attempts to support the case for Bigfoot, but
some prominent figures, such as physical anthropologist
Grover Krantz, claim the film depicts a genuine, unknown
creature.  Others such as ecologist Robert Michael Pyle do
not endorse the Bigfoot position but also say it “has never
been convincingly debunked.”  The photo above is frame

The Memorial Day footage is a film that is purported to
show a Bigfoot.  It was filmed on May 30, 1996, by Lori and
Owen Pate while they were on a fishing trip with family and
friends at Chopaka Lake, in Okanogan County,
Washington.

It shows a figure, matching the description of Bigfoot,
running across a hill. It disappears behind the knoll in front
of it, then reappears briefly, walking this time, before going
into the trees.  It should be noted that the authenticity of
this footage is still highly controversial.
Paul Freeman was an American Bigfoot hunter who
discovered alleged Bigfoot tracks showing dermal ridges.
The plaster casts Freeman subsequently made were
convincing enough to be considered critical pieces of
evidence by anthropologists.   In 1994 Freeman captured
a purported Bigfoot on film near the Blue Mountains
region.  The footage is considered to be authentic by
many Bigfoot investigators and can be viewed in the
documentary Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science.
